Care and Maintenance

Care/Cleaning

One of the most important aspects of maintaining the beauty of a jewelry piece over its lifetime is the amount of care put into its preservation. Depending on the material used to craft your ring, it is always a good idea to avoid wearing it while performing any strenuous work which may include exercising, household chores or any other chores where heavy labor is involved as blows to the ring may bend its prongs, the ring itself and could even chip your diamond.

Although diamond is known as the hardest material on earth and scores a perfect "10" on the Mohs Hardness Scale, it still runs the risk of being chipped as hardness is defined as "resistance to scratching". A hard blow to the girdle (the circumference) or culet (the pointy bottom) may quite easily damage it.

Aside from this, however, diamond is essentially indestructible - hence its derived name from the Greek word "Adamas" meaning "invincible". Moreover, it is also not recommended to wear your ring while sleeping as the prongs may potentially catch on the mattress fibers resulting in either tearing the mattress or pulling a prong off.

To ensure the longevity of your jewels, it's best to store them in a jewelry box or an enclosed area where there are no other metals as these could scratch your special item or merely wear down the metal and its prongs.

For routine maintenance to keep your jewelry looking its best, try the following:
Mix some dish soap in a small bowl filled with hot water. Following this, take your jewelry piece and drop it in the bowl, letting it soak for about 10 minutes. Once completed, take the ring out with tongs (as the water will be very hot) and gently brush it with a toothbrush until all dirt has been removed. Finally, rinse off the soap with cold water.
